We’re hiring a Principal Sales Engineer to join our Field Engineering team. As a senior, customer-facing technical expert, you will serve as the trusted advisor throughout the sales cycle for our most strategic opportunities. You’ll lead technical discovery, design compelling solution architectures, deliver high-impact demos and PoCs, and help enterprise security teams envision how Abstract’s composable, AI-powered platform transforms their security data operations.

This is a high-visibility role that combines deep technical mastery of streaming data, detection engineering, and SIEM modernization with strong business acumen to drive technical wins and accelerate deal velocity in a competitive market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical discovery calls and requirements gathering with prospective customers, including CISOs, SOC leads, and data engineering teams.
  • Deliver compelling product demonstrations, technical deep-dives, proof-of-concepts (PoCs), and workshops showcasing streaming pipelines, in-stream detection/enrichment, OCSF normalization, cost optimization, and AI-Gen capabilities.
  • Collaborate closely with Account Executives to build technical win strategies, respond to RFPs/RFIs, and overcome technical objections throughout the sales cycle.
  • Provide accurate scoping, architecture recommendations, and ROI guidance (e.g., data cost reduction, faster MTTD/MTTR, migration roadmaps) to help customers build a strong business case.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, and Customer Success teams to ensure seamless handoffs and feed real-world customer insights back into the product roadmap.
  • Act as a thought leader by contributing to webinars, conferences, and internal enablement on SIEM modernization and composable security data strategies.
  • Mentor junior Sales Engineers and help scale best practices as the team grows.

What You’ll Bring

Required Qualifications

  • 7–12+ years of experience in pre-sales technical roles (Sales Engineer, Solutions Architect, or equivalent) in cybersecurity or security data platforms.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with SIEM/SOAR/XDR tools (Splunk, Elastic, Microsoft Sentinel, or similar), including migrations, integrations, and hybrid deployments.
  • Deep understanding of security data architectures: streaming pipelines, log ingestion, schema normalization (OCSF preferred), cost/performance optimization, detection engineering, and real-time analytics.
  • Proven track record of winning complex enterprise deals through technical excellence, PoC leadership, and stakeholder alignment (technical and executive).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business value for both SOC practitioners and C-level audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience selling or supporting composable, modular, or streaming-first security platforms.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML applications in SecOps, detection-as-code, or cloud-native data strategies (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Scripting skills (Python preferred) and comfort with APIs, infrastructure-as-code, and automation.
  • Background at leading security vendors (Splunk, Elastic, Palo Alto, CrowdStrike, etc.) or in professional services focused on SIEM modernization.

What We Offer

  • Competitive total compensation, including base salary, variable pay (OTE), and meaningful equity in a high-growth Series A company.
  • The opportunity to shape the future of security operations as one of the earliest Principal-level hires in a pioneering composable SIEM platform.
  • Direct impact on winning strategic enterprise accounts and influencing product direction.
  • Collaborative culture with seasoned security founders and a mission to eliminate legacy SIEM pain points.
  • Flexible, remote-friendly environment with travel for customer meetings and industry events (20–40% expected).
  • Comprehensive benefits including health coverage, 401(k), professional development, and home office support.
