As an Specialist/Assitant Manager Litigation at ACKO, you will play a crucial role in managing consumer-related legal matters. Your primary responsibility will be overseeing Consumer Forum and Insurance Ombudsman litigation, ensuring compliance with legal mandates and protecting the organization's interests. This position demands a proactive approach to legal proceedings and a commitment to maintaining accurate records of ongoing and resolved cases.

You will collaborate closely with panel advocates, internal stakeholders, and various teams to ensure that responses to legal proceedings are timely and comprehensive. Your role is pivotal in safeguarding ACKO's reputation and ensuring adherence to consumer protection laws and regulations.

Skills & Qualification

  • A law degree (LLB) from a recognized university in India is essential, with preference for candidates holding an LLM

  • Enrollment with a State Bar Council is beneficial for professional conduct in legal matters

  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially MS Excel, is necessary for managing and updating MIS

  • Minimum of 3–4 years of experience in the insurance sector, focusing on legal and litigation roles

  • Demonstrated expertise in managing Consumer Forum and Insurance Ombudsman proceedings

  • Strong understanding of the Consumer Protection Act 2019, Insurance Ombudsman Rules 2017, and relevant IRDAI guidelines

  • Proficiency in Hindi and English, with the ability to communicate in at least one regional language preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end management of Consumer Forum litigation, from initial notice receipt to final disposal, ensuring strategic allocation to panel advocates and compliance with orders

  • Oversee Ombudsman proceedings, including drafting notes, coordinating with teams for document preparation, and attending hearings to ensure compliance with awards

  • Ensure high-quality submissions by reviewing responses and pleadings from panel advocates, offering strategic guidance and feedback

  • Monitor case timelines rigorously, ensuring timely submission of all legal filings and tracking adherence to statutory deadlines

  • Facilitate the settlement of consumer disputes through various forums, aiming for resolution outside of traditional court proceedings when beneficial

  • Maintain a detailed and accurate MIS of all consumer-related legal cases, tracking their status and compliance outcomes

  • Collaborate with internal teams such as Claims, Finance, and Legal to gather necessary data and secure approvals for litigation processes

  • Ensure the timely processing of awarded amounts and related legal fees, maintaining financial compliance

  • Stay informed about legal amendments and regulatory changes affecting consumer grievances and insurance claims
