Manager – Taxation will lead a team executing day-to-day compliance, represent the company before tax authorities and auditors, and drive modernization of the tax function through automation and AI-enabled tools. Timely and accurate closure of GST returns is a primary responsibility of this role.
Indirect Taxation Return Closure & Risk Ownership
Own end-to-end and ensure timely, accurate closure of all GST returns (GSTR-1,GSTR-3B, other periodic filings, and Annual Returns) across all state registrations
Own GST risk sign-off — credit reversals, RCM applicability, cross-charge GSTtreatment GST litigation departmental audits, SCN responses, appeals, and tracking of evolving case law relevant to the insurance sector
Design (not just execute) the GST credit-leakage monitoring framework
Resolve interpretation questions on ambiguous or sector-specific transactions
Own reconciliation of GST records with financial statements and ledgers, and hold technical positions on GST provisions/disclosures in auditor discussions
Direct Taxation Ownership & Strategy
Own the direct tax compliance calendar (TDS, advance tax, Form 3CD, ITR) with the team Section 195 withholding on foreign remittances, DTAA applicability, lower/nil deduction certificate strategy
Handle assessment and appellate proceedings
Involve in transfer pricing positions and documentation (cross-charge structuring, benchmarking) across group entities
Review and own deferred tax and income tax provisioning for financial statements; hold technical positions on contested direct tax matters in auditor discussion
Provide tax input into regulatory filings (e.g., DRHP/IPO-related disclosures) and corporate transactions (M&A, brand/IP deals, restructuring) as required Support broader finance and audit stakeholders on tax-related queries not specific to a single tax head Tax Technology &Automation
Own tax technology roadmap — prioritize what gets automated and evaluate build-vs-buy
Drive automation of GST reconciliation (GSTR-2A/2B vs. books matching, including fuzzy/near-duplicate invoice matching) to eliminate manual reconciliation effort and support faster return closure
Embed rules-based TDS computation into the ERP procure-to-pay workflow rather than manual monthly calculation
Build real-time tax risk dashboards (credit position, TDS exposure, return/litigation status) sourced directly from ERP data
Automate the compliance calendar with rule-based alerts and auto-populated return data extracts
People & Stakeholder Management
Lead and develop a team of AMs/executives; build capability so routine compliance and return filing run without escalation
Serve as primary interface with tax authorities, external counsel, and statutory auditors
Present tax risk exposure and material positions to the Head of Taxation
Required Skills
CA Qualified with 3–5 years post-qualification experience in direct and indirect tax
Demonstrated ownership of GST return filing/closure, along with exposure to assessments, litigation, or appellate matters
Strong technical grounding in GST and direct tax law
Insurance industry experience is an added advantage
Comfort directing tax technology and automation initiatives
Strong communication skills and ability to operate under stringent deadlines across multiple concurrent priorities
Added advantage:
Proficient in Excel, ERP systems (Oracle Fusion or equivalent), and exposure to tax-tech platforms
