INSHUR

INSHUR

Brighton, UK
Posted on Sep 3, 2024

Are you keen to work somewhere that’s stimulating and friendly, with loads of opportunities for growth and plenty of freedom to make a real impact? This could be the place for you!

We are looking for a SecOps Engineer to join us at INSHUR; we are based in London and sunny Brighton (sea, chips and seagulls included) and our company embraces a hybrid working model, allowing you to thrive in both collaborative office settings and the comfort of your own home. You’ll have the opportunity to work remotely while also connecting with your colleagues in person with the odd trip to the office which typically includes working from our Brighton office once a month.

You’ll be working on re-inventing insurance in exciting markets across multiple territories including the UK, US and the Netherlands, and new European countries as we expand.

Supported by (and reporting to) the Head of Infrastructure, you'll be joining a friendly team of 4 DevOps Engineers who are empowered to design and implement solutions that help us deliver quality products, improve operations and increase performance and efficiency. We’d love to hear from people who can challenge the status quo, suggest new and novel ways of tackling issues and push technology forward.

We value high performance and care deeply about making INSHUR feel like a place where everyone is building something really special, that we can all be proud of, and doing it with friends.

What you'll do

The SecOps Engineer role serves to provide a valuable contribution to the Infrastructure team and ensure our effective ongoing support for the underlying INSHUR platform. The Infrastructure team is responsible for the platform which underpins our software development teams, with our collective goal being to deliver high quality INSHUR products to our customers.

We don’t have a definite checklist of skills - our hiring process is much more about aptitude and passion than ticking boxes. So don’t worry if you’ve not used a particular tool or checked off all the listed skills and experience.

That said, below is a guideline of skills that we think would make you successful in this role.

We'd love to hear from you if you:

  • Embrace SecOps as a Cultural Pillar: Recognise that SecOps is not just a role but a critical aspect of our technology ecosystem, fostering a culture of security across all teams.
  • Bring Deep Information Security Expertise: Possess a strong background in information security with a focus on automating processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Have Cloud and LINUX Security Experience: Demonstrate hands-on experience with cloud platforms (especially GCP) and LINUX systems, using these environments to strengthen our security posture.
  • Build Custom Security Tools with Python: Proficient in Python for developing custom security tools and experience with Infrastructure as Code principles, including Terraform.
  • Possess Advanced Technical Security Skills: Excel in designing, implementing, and maintaining robust security measures, including intrusion detection systems, firewalls, and security tools.
  • Engage in Proactive Threat Management: Lead proactive security measures, including regular penetration testing, developing security tools, and continuously scanning assets to identify and mitigate threats.
  • Excel in Security Incident Analysis: Conduct thorough analyses of security threats and incidents, providing comprehensive post-mortem reports and data-driven improvement recommendations.
  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Craft and enforce policies that ensure adherence to regulatory security standards and compliance while maintaining system usability.
  • Optimize Monitoring and Alert Systems: Adeptly optimize logging, metrics, and monitoring systems to reduce alert fatigue while maintaining high security vigilance.
  • Secure Modern Architectures: Understand service-oriented and microservice-based architectures, with expertise in Kubernetes, to secure complex and dynamic environments.
  • Are Passionate and Pragmatic: Show a passion for technology, a pragmatic approach, and a relentless drive to find the most effective solutions to complex security challenges.

Your colleagues say you:

  • Pragmatic and known to be able to prioritise tasks well
  • A collaborative team player
  • Always supportive and helpful

Things we’ve been working on recently (and you’ll likely be working on too):

  • Managing Kubernetes at scale
  • IAC best practices with Terraform
  • CI/CD build and deployment pipelines
  • Application and cloud security
  • Managing an International platform
  • Python tooling and services
  • Monitoring and visibility
  • Performance testing
  • Building deployment tooling to support cross-functional projects

What to expect from the process:

Screen & Intro: 30-minute video call with the Talent Team to discuss the role and your experience.

First Interview: 60-minute video call with the Head of Infrastructure and a Staff Engineer to explore the role in detail, including technical questions and an opportunity for you to ask questions. If the interview is progressing well, you'll be invited to complete a 30-minute Python coding test, followed by a discussion of your results.

Final Interview: 45-60 minute video call with a member of the Engineering Leadership team and a People Partner to address any remaining questions and assess your fit within the company.

In terms of salary, your previous experience and expertise will be taken into account when agreeing on the final offer. We also offer all our employees stock options and we will pay into your pension monthly.
