NEXT’s mission is to help entrepreneurs thrive. We’re doing that by building the only technology-led, full-stack provider of small business insurance in the industry, taking on the entire value chain and transforming the customer experience.

Simply put, wherever you find small businesses, you’ll find NEXT.

Since 2016, we’ve helped hundreds of thousands of small business customers across the United States get fast, customized and affordable coverage. We’re backed by industry leaders in insurance and tech, and we still have room to grow — that’s where you come in.

We’re looking for a Platform Web Engineering Team Lead to join our dynamic and results-oriented Distribution Channels Engineering Group. In this pivotal role, you will lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of our web and marketing tools and infrastructure. You will implement SEO strategies, build tools for SEM campaigns to drive targeted traffic, and optimize the customer lifecycle journey with custom tracking.

You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and leverage the latest technologies to ensure our website remains efficient and user-friendly and contributes to business growth. Additionally, you will provide mentorship to fellow software engineers and serve as a focal point for professional knowledge.

Your role will also involve working closely with business stakeholders, including product and business owners, to ensure our solutions align with business objectives and drive impactful results.

What We Need:

  • Experience with Remote Stakeholders: Extensive experience collaborating with remote business stakeholders (Product, Business Owners, Marketing), effectively managing their needs, and aligning data solutions to support critical business objectives.
  • Team Leadership: Demonstrated track record of successfully leading teams of 4+ engineers, showcasing the ability to attract, inspire, and motivate talented individuals.
  • Technical Expertise: Proven experience (6+ years) in a full stack high-scale production web environment, with a robust understanding of design and architecture, testing, and development principles.
  • Hands-on Proficiency: Proficiency with developing engineering tools and technologies, including React or any other modern JS framework, JS/HTML/CSS3/Git, SDK + API integrations, and other relevant frameworks (WordPress on PHP - advantage).
  • SEO and SEM Knowledge: Familiarity with SEO strategies, SEM tools (like GTM), and optimizing the customer lifecycle journey (Exponea).
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills that help build trust, resolve conflicts, and provide feedback.
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. (Advantage)

What You’ll Do:

  • Deliver Impactful Features: Ship features and capabilities significantly enhance our direct customer experience.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work closely with product managers and engineering leads to achieve business goals and ensure alignment between engineering initiatives and business objectives.
  • Lead and Mentor: Lead and mentor a team of passionate and talented SW engineers. Foster their growth and development by managing their career development through coaching, mentoring, continuous performance feedback, and collaborating on objectives. Provide a clear path for progression through personal development plans.
  • Technical Domain Ownership: Own the technical domain and stack. Drive the adoption of modern data engineering practices and technologies within the team. Conduct code and architecture design reviews to balance features, technical debt, and the roadmap. Ensure efficiency, quality, and system health.
