We are currently seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Accountant to join our team in Japan. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Japan, this role is responsible for accurate and timely financial postings, reconciliations, and reporting support, while ensuring compliance with internal policies and local regulatory requirements. The role offers exposure across end-to-end finance processes and requires a strong commitment to accuracy, continuous learning, and collaboration.
Your Role
The Accountant will contribute to a range of activities, including but not limited to the following:
General Accounting
- Execute routine general ledger postings for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and fixed assets, in compliance with accounting standards and internal guidelines
- Perform quarterly and annual closing activities, including journal entries, accruals, provisions, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Review and process expense claims in Concur (employee reimbursements), provide user support, and handle related ad hoc tasks
- Perform cash management activities, including daily cash positioning and reconciliation of bank balances, to ensure adequate liquidity within internal guidelines
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and reduce manual interventions
Technical Accounting
- Review and process reinsurance statements of account for Life and Health business
- Ensure postings follow defined accounting flows, chart of accounts, and booking rules
- Liaise with relevant teams to ensure data completeness and integrity
- Prepare and maintain reconciliations for technical balance sheet accounts
- Support quarter-end and year-end closing activities for technical accounting areas
- Provide movement analysis and variance explanations
- Assist in preparing supporting schedules and documentation for local regulatory reporting
- Maintain appropriate documentation of internal processes and ensure compliance with internal guidelines
Your Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 2–4 years of relevant finance or accounting experience, preferably within the insurance or reinsurance industry
- Experience in general accounting, with exposure to insurance or reinsurance accounting considered an advantage
- Experience with financial systems, preferably SAP and Concur
- Interest in, or openness to using AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Japanese, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Demonstrates initiative, ownership, and a continuous learning mindset
- Ability to collaborate effectively in an international and cross-functional environment
