Position Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of transforming how reinsurance operations deliver value at Munich Re. As Vice President, Reinsurance Operations, you will lead a large, multi-disciplinary organization responsible for the end-to-end operational engine across North America Life & Health.

You will play a critical role in shaping the future of the function by connecting operations, data, and technology to drive innovation, improve data quality, and unlock deeper insights for both Munich Re and our clients.

This role goes well beyond traditional operations leadership, with accountability spanning from assuming client data intake and translation through to retrocessionaires. The management of core data including premium, inforce and claims includes management of treaty set-up and compliance uncovering trends and analytics which empower stakeholders and drive the business forward. Enabling your ability and autonomy to push transformation initiatives forward, responsibilities include a data engineering and reporting team.

The VP, Reinsurance Operations will:

  • Provide leadership, vision, and direction for Reinsurance Operations across North America Life, overseeing a large and diverse team.
  • Lead an integrated operating model across Production, Claims Operations, Treaty & Retrocession, Data Engineering, Data Integrity, Reporting & Analytics, Strategic Initiatives, and AI.
  • Act as the connector across business, technology, and data to align execution with insights.
  • Drive the evolution of operations into a data-driven, insight-led organization while consistently prioritizing with the greatest impact

Your Role:

Operations, Data & Transformation Leadership

  • Lead end-to-end reinsurance operations ensuring accurate, timely processing across claims, billing, inforce, treaty, and retrocession
  • Establish Data Integrity as a foundational capability where we “get the data right at source”
  • Drive proactive data quality frameworks including validation, reconciliation, and monitoring
  • Lead data enrichment initiatives combining business, actuarial, and technical capabilities
  • Oversee integration of third-party data to enhance analytics, reporting, and decision-making
  • Lead Reporting & Analytics, including Power BI and Databricks, delivering actionable insights to leadership and clients
  • Drive value-added analytics (experience studies, premium comparisons, treaty compliance, claims insights)
  • Lead Data Engineering and Data Warehouse capabilities ensuring scalable data pipelines
  • Champion AI integration and automation across operations and data workflows
  • Lead Project Management and transformation initiatives including system enhancements and new deal onboarding
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation across all teams

Client & Stakeholder Leadership

  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and clients
  • Partner across actuarial, underwriting, finance, claims, and IT to align priorities
  • Act as a senior escalation point for complex operational and client challenges

People Leadership

  • Lead and develop a large, high-performing, multi-functional team
  • Create an environment that encourages curiosity, ownership, and innovation
  • Set clear objectives and provide meaningful development opportunities
  • Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and pride in delivering high-quality work

Your Profile:

  • Actuarial, University, LOMA or other insurance designations
  • 10+ years of experience in reinsurance operations or related fields
  • Proven experience leading large, complex, multi-disciplinary teams
  • Strong expertise across claims, treaty, retrocession, and operations
  • Experience with data engineering, data warehousing, and Power BI
  • Demonstrated ability to lead transformation initiatives including AI and automation
  • Strong curiosity and drive to continuously improve processes and outcomes
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong client orientation focused on delivering value
