Job Summary

This is the Job Description for a legal professional within the Life & Health team of Munich Re India Branch. The position, based in Mumbai, India, will be titled Treaty Wording Expert and will be responsible for finalising all contracts and agreements associated with the lines of business written by the Branch. The individual will report to the Chief Marketing Actuary and will be responsible for a variety of activities, including treaty wording, non-disclosure agreements, engagement with client legal teams to resolve contractual clauses, and providing legal support on underwriting and claims matters.

Role Profile:

• Prepare contractual agreements using current Munich Re methods and a knowledge of client needs and the ability to fulfil requirements.
• Collaborate with relevant teams consisting of Actuaries, Underwriters, Analysts and RI Account staff.
• Engage regularly with experts in the regional office (LH2).
• Ensure that treaty terms are consistent with the standard templates provided by LH2 and that contractual agreements are drafted in legally binding language in accordance with client requirements.
• Assist clients in fulfilling contractual obligations or terminating contracts on mutually agreed terms.
• Assist Underwriting and Claims teams with legal inputs on specific cases to support timely decision-making.
• Review existing treaty terms and conditions to verify compliance with company policies and all applicable laws and regulations.
• Clearly explain treaty and contract terminology to clients and other stakeholders in simple language.
• Monitor progress against agreed timelines and submit drafts and documents in a timely manner.
• Proofread, edit and fact-check legal documents for accuracy and consistency, according to a style guide where applicable.

Your Profile:

• Law degree is essential.
• Minimum 3+ years of experience within the Financial Services or IT sector is essential. Experience in the Insurance/Reinsurance industry would be beneficial.
• Excellent time management skills, with the ability to manage priorities effectively, work independently when required, and demonstrate strong problem-solving capabilities.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including proficiency in the English language.
• Knowledge of negotiation best practices, both in person and in written form, considering business context and the mutual interests of the parties involved.
• Willingness to travel as required.
