Since its formation as a stand-alone division of Munich Re in 2023, Munich Re Specialty (GSI) has the ambition to become a profitable top-10 global primary Specialty insurer.

Complementing an already strong presence in the UK and the US, Munich Re Specialty - Global Markets (MRS-GM) has been tasked with expanding our primary Specialty business in continental Europe and APAC. We have begun the European expansion journey, and have now commenced our expansion in APAC, starting with Australia.

The Business Operations Analyst is a practical, hands-on role to support the Head of Operations in establishing, operating and continuously improving the Australian operating model. The role will provide hands-on analytical, coordination and delivery support, developing practical processes, reporting, tools, controls and solutions that improve efficiency, transparency and business performance.

This is a broad role for someone who enjoys building, improving and getting things done. It suits a proactive problem-solver who can work across different activities, learn the insurance environment on the job and use Microsoft 365 tools to simplify manual work and support a growing business.

Your Role

Operational Support & Delivery

  • Support the Head of Operations with the planning, coordination and delivery of operational priorities, business initiatives and day-to-day activities.
  • Maintain action trackers, project plans, status updates and follow-up activities to ensure commitments remain on track.
  • Prepare presentations, reports and management information to support operational and leadership discussions.

Tools, Automation & Reporting

  • Build and maintain practical solutions using Microsoft 365 tools including Excel, SharePoint, Power Automate and Power BI.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardise and improve operational processes and ways of working.
  • Produce reports, dashboards and business information to support decision-making and operational oversight.
  • Define and monitor measures of success for process improvements, automation and operational initiatives, supporting continuous improvement and business performance.

Process Design & Continuous Improvement

  • Help document new and evolving processes, procedures and hand-offs using Adonis and other agreed tools in a clear and practical format.
  • Work with process owners and stakeholders to understand business needs, pain points and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support the implementation of agreed process and system changes, including testing, communications, training and ongoing maintenance of supporting documentation and tools.

Coordination & Business Support

  • Coordinate activities across Underwriting, Claims, Finance, IT, Legal, Risk & Compliance and other key stakeholders.
  • Support governance, business continuity and third-party management activities through effective tracking, administration and follow-up.
  • Support the identification, investigation and resolution of operational issues, maintaining issue and remediation trackers with clear ownership, actions and target dates.
  • Support the preparation of recommendations, business cases and improvement initiatives that enhance operational effectiveness and efficiency.

Your Profile

Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Business, Information Technology, Data, Engineering, Finance or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting business operations, projects, process improvement initiatives or operational activities in a professional environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with SharePoint, Power Automate and Power BI is desirable.
  • Experience using AI-enabled tools to improve productivity, reporting, analysis or operational processes is desirable.
  • Experience improving processes, building practical tools or implementing technology-enabled solutions.
  • Comfortable working with data, trackers, reporting and structured problem-solving.
  • Ability to organise multiple activities, follow through on commitments and maintain attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into practical solutions.
