Role overview
ShipIn is seeking a Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships to develop and execute long-term partnerships that open new markets, influence industry standards, and position ShipIn as a category-defining player in maritime safety and risk intelligence.
The role focuses on building strategic relationships across the maritime ecosystem, with particular emphasis on marine insurance and risk transfer, to drive product adoption, category leadership, and nonlinear growth.
The role reports directly to the CEO and partners closely with the executive leadership team on long-term strategy and ecosystem development.
Key responsibilities
- Build and manage senior-level, long-term partnerships with marine insurers, reinsurers, P&I clubs, brokers, and risk organizations.
- Develop strategic collaborations with class societies, flag states, ports and terminals, cargo owners, and large fleet operators to expand ShipIn’s influence across the maritime value chain.
- Act as a primary interface between ShipIn and the insurance and risk community, shaping how ShipIn’s data and insights are positioned within underwriting, loss prevention, and risk mitigation workflows.
- Identify high-leverage partnership opportunities that validate new use cases, markets, and business models, beyond ShipIn’s current commercial footprint.
- Lead pilot programs, MoUs, joint studies, and proof-of-value initiatives that demonstrate strategic value and inform future productization.
- Work with internal stakeholders to assess which partnerships should evolve into scaled programs, commercial offerings, or industry standards.
- Collaborate closely with Product and Technology teams to translate partner needs, industry signals, and regulatory trends into actionable roadmap insights.
- Represent ShipIn with executive credibility in strategic discussions, industry forums, working groups, and closed-door partner engagements.
Qualifications
- Senior maritime professional with deep industry credibility, coming from ship owning/operating, marine insurance, P&I, classification, or a closely related ecosystem role.
- Strong understanding of maritime risk, safety, claims, underwriting, and insurance-driven economics.
- Proven ability to build and sustain trust-based, C-suite-level relationships across global organizations.
- Strategic, commercially minded, and entrepreneurial; comfortable operating in ambiguous environments without near-term revenue targets.
- Experience leading business development, strategic alliances, or ecosystem partnerships in a complex, regulated, global industry is an advantage.
- Ability to operate independently, influence without authority, and bridge between industry, technology, and product teams.
