The Role
To complement our rapid growth, we are seeking a passionate and experienced VP of Legal to join our team. You will provide strategic and tactical legal counseling to cross-functional department leaders. You are a strong transactional attorney who easily adapts to changing priorities and organizational needs, and operates independently in a fast-paced, growing environment. This role reports directly to the COO.


Role and Responsibilities:

  • Build, scale, and drive enterprise-wide legal strategies and initiatives to identify and mitigate risk

  • Support our product and business development teams

  • Structure, draft, and negotiate commercial transactions with partners, vendors, and large strategic customers

  • Provide legal advice to teams throughout the company, including Sales, Privacy & Security, Marketing, Finance, People, and the executive team

  • Monitor and evaluate legislative, regulatory, industry, and legal developments, and craft company messaging relevant to SPAN’s products

  • Other projects as assigned including stretch subjects

  • Think ahead, see around corners, and help prepare for legal issues that may arise in the future

About You
Required Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and member of the California Bar in good standing

  • 8+ years of legal experience as a practicing attorney (2+ years in U.S. law firm)

  • Significant experience reviewing, negotiating, and executing a wide range of complex commercial agreements

  • Track record of successfully collaborating with teams throughout the organization

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Self-starter with proven ability to achieve results and work independently

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving workplace

  • Intellectually curious with a sense of humor

  • Value diversity and inclusion

The U.S. base salary range for this position is $250,000-$275,000 plus benefits, equity and variable compensation for Sales-related roles. This range represents SPAN’s good faith estimate of competitively-priced salary for the role based on national, real-time industry data from companies of a similar growth stage. This range reflects minimum and maximum new hire salaries for the role across US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by location and individual factors including relevant skills, experience and education or training. This range correlates to the relative level of the candidate we believe we need for the role and may require an adjustment for candidates of a different level.
