The Role

At SPAN, we are building products to drive the rapid adoption of renewable energy and electrification of home appliances. Our smart panel reinvents home electrical infrastructure and makes user-friendly energy management the center of the smart home, presenting intelligent load-balancing and revolutionary edge-of-grid controls to homeowners through the SPAN mobile app.

As the Systems Integration and Test Manager, you’ll play a key role in helping SPAN ship complex hardware that integrates seamlessly with home electrical systems, smart appliances, renewable energy sources, and much more. You and your team will work closely with other engineering leaders to develop integration test roadmaps and contribute key milestones to SPAN’s overall product development plan and timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of top-notch integration and test engineers

  • Play a key role in roadmapping, timeline estimation and design

  • Deliver comprehensive integration test plans for new software features, hardware products, and third-party integrations

  • Work closely with Hardware, Software, and Systems Engineering to develop product timelines, design test fixtures, plan bringup efforts, and identify risk areas for focused testing

  • Work with Software QA, R&D software-in-the-loop modeling teams, and hardware-in-the-loop firmware teams to align effort, write test plans, and hand off regression test activities

  • Enable your team to plan, build, maintain, and operate automated system-level regression test platforms

  • Lead efforts to streamline the product development process, ensuring system and integration test failures are reported to responsible engineers and diagnostic data is tailored to the engineering debug process

About You

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field

  • 5+ years in engineering management

  • 3+ years in systems test and/or systems integration

  • Experience with project management and time estimation in fast-moving, ambitious technical teams

  • Experience specifying and procuring test equipment, data acquisition systems, etc.

  • Strong fundamentals in electrical engineering and software

  • Good understanding of software development practices

  • Understanding of the tradeoffs between automated and manual test

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to understand and explain complex problems simply and effectively

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience writing Python or similar scripting languages

  • Domain experience in distributed energy: inverters, batteries, solar

  • Understanding of computer networking, TCP/IP; comfort working in Unix environments

  • Development of automated test equipment for high voltage devices

  • Experience following high voltage safety process on automated manufacturing or test equipment

The U.S. base salary range for this position is $184,000 - $218,500 plus benefits, equity and variable compensation for Sales-related roles. This range represents SPAN’s good faith estimate of competitively-priced salary for the role based on national, real-time industry data from companies of a similar growth stage. This range reflects minimum and maximum new hire salaries for the role across US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by location and individual factors including relevant skills, experience and education or training. This range correlates to the relative level of the candidate we believe we need for the role and may require an adjustment for candidates of a different level.
